Kuznechny Market is the oldest traditional market in St. Petersburg. It’s worth a visit even if you are not buying anything. There is a variety of meat, vegetables, and dessert. There are luxury stores everywhere now, and someone told me that department stores are like museums where one only goes to look but not to buy because things are hardly affordable to common people. But in a place like this, one feels like home.
At one corner of the market, I saw some Matryoshka dolls of interesting shapes and designs. I took a photo and showed it to a friend who used to live in St. Petersburg. She was very surprised and said that when she was a child, there were only traditional types of Matryoshka.
Strolling inside Kuznechny, Market, I felt something familiar, something I have known all along, although I know so little about the Russians.
